What is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro), an analogue of the ACTH(4-10) fragment with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail added for metabolic stability. How Semax is studied
In published animal research, Semax has been reported to rapidly raise expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its TrkB receptor in the hippocampus, and to modulate dopaminergic and serotonergic signaling. Additional studies describe inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes and interaction with melanocortin receptors. These pathways are investigated in models of neuroplasticity and cerebral ischemia; corresponding mechanisms in humans are not established.
