Overview
What is DSIP?
DSIP is a synthetic nonapeptide named for the increase in delta-wave EEG activity it produced in rabbits after central infusion. It is used as a research compound in studies of sleep regulation, ACTH and pituitary signalling, and stress-response pathways. Supplied for in-vitro and laboratory research use only.
Research applications
Where DSIP is used in research
Areas of study described in the published literature. Listed for research reference only.
Sleep EEG research
Used as the reference peptide in studies of delta-wave and spindle activity in rabbit and rat models.
Neuroendocrine signalling
Studied for effects on ACTH, cortisol, and other pituitary hormones in small human and rodent studies.
Stress-response models
Explored as a stress-limiting factor in rodent models of emotional and physical stress.
Peptide chemistry
Applied in analogue, phosphorylation, and Asp-Gly isomerisation studies of short peptide stability.
Mechanism in research
How DSIP is studied
In published research, synthetic DSIP enhanced delta and spindle EEG activity after intraventricular infusion in rabbits in double-blind experiments, an effect that fragments and analogues did not reproduce. Small early human studies gave mixed results: one 1981 crossover study in six volunteers reported a median 59% increase in total sleep time without classic sedation, while a 1992 double-blind study in sixteen chronic insomniacs found only weak effects on sleep efficiency and latency. Endocrine data are inconsistent, with one study in eight men reporting lower plasma ACTH and another finding no change in CRH- or meal-stimulated ACTH and cortisol. A 2006 review noted that no DSIP gene, precursor protein, or receptor has been identified, so the mechanism remains undefined. These findings describe the published literature; the compound is supplied here strictly as a research reference standard.

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences · 1977
Isolated the nonapeptide from rabbit cerebral venous blood, established its sequence, and showed in double-blind experiments on 58 rabbits that only the synthetic full-length peptide, not its fragments or analogues, enhanced delta and spindle EEG activity after intraventricular infusion.
International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Therapy, and Toxicology · 1981
Reported a double-blind crossover study in six healthy volunteers where a single intravenous infusion increased median total sleep time by 59% within about two hours and improved next-night sleep efficiency, without sedation in the classic pharmacological sense.
Neuropsychobiology · 1992
Reported a double-blind study in sixteen chronic insomniac patients where three intravenous infusions produced higher sleep efficiency and shorter sleep latency than placebo, but the authors judged the effects weak and partly attributable to a change in the placebo group.
Journal of Neurochemistry · 2006
Reviewed three decades of DSIP research and concluded that the peptide's gene, precursor protein, and receptor have never been identified, and that the evidence for DSIP as an endogenous sleep factor remains weak.

Reviews
What researchers say about DSIP
kolding again
Reordered the 10mg to Kolding. ACTH in the mouse stress model matched box one, so it works, thats about it.
label sat there till thursday
product is grand, went into the sleep eeg rig the day it landed and the delta power went up like its meant to. my gripe is the bit before it shipped. paid on a monday and the label wasnt even created till the thursday, then kilkenny in four days once it finally moved. would of been five without that
ordered for the stress cohort
Exeter, about a week, and the plasma ACTH readout in our restraint-stress rats landed where the 80s papers put it.
kein Aspartimid-Peak
Freiburg, sechs Tage.
rats agree with the rabbits
first dsip weve bought from anyone. we run a rat sleep eeg setup and mostly wanted to see whether the delta shift from the old rabbit work shows up in rats at all, and it does, not huge but its there and the vehicle animals stay flat. tilburg in five days, nothing rattling in the box
