Overview

What is Thymalin?

Thymalin is a polypeptide complex isolated from calf thymus, whose characterised active components include the dipeptides Lys-Glu and Glu-Trp. It is used as a research compound in studies of T-cell differentiation, hematopoietic stem cell markers, and immune senescence. Supplied for in-vitro and laboratory research use only.

Mechanism in research

How Thymalin is studied

In published research, Thymalin was reported to reduce CD44 and CD117 expression two- to three-fold and to increase CD28 expression 6.8-fold in human hematopoietic stem cell cultures, interpreted by the authors as stimulation of differentiation toward mature CD28-positive T cells. Its dipeptide components KE and EW were studied by molecular docking to double-stranded DNA and by bioinformatic analysis of gene expression. A 6-8 year observational study of older adults given Thymalin reported lower respiratory-infection incidence. These findings come from cell-culture and observational research; a defined molecular mechanism has not been established.

Reported targets & pathways

  • CD28 T-cell co-stimulatory marker
  • CD44 and CD117 stem cell markers
  • T-lymphocyte differentiation
  • KE and EW dipeptide DNA binding (proposed)

Reviews

What researchers say about Thymalin

took me months to find this

been trying to get thymalin for our immunosenescence project since spring and every place either had no stock or wanted a purchase order from the university. miro just let me pay and shipped it, brno in 7 days. ran the first vial through the T-cell assay last week and it did what it was supposed to, so yeah, relieved

nothing to add really

Thymalin to Trondheim. Immune panel moved like it should, box was fine, done.

asked before it landed

had a question about storage before the thymalin landed and got a proper answer back the same afternoon, not a canned one. box turned up in cork two days later with everything padded in properly.

Where the old papers put it

We have been running thymalin in an immune-senescence model for about two years and sourcing it has always been the weak point. First lot from Miro. The T-cell panel moved in the direction the older Russian papers describe, which is what we wanted to see before ordering more than one box. Reconstitution was uneventful. The COA for the batch, which they sent when we asked, sat close to our own read, closer than I expected honestly. Montpellier in eight days with a weekend in the middle.
